Selwyn Richards

A dedication to great food, great presentation, friendly and professional service is what President and award-winning Executive Chef, Selwyn Richards, offers at The Art of Catering.  Under Selwyn’s management, The Art of Catering has successfully catered over 1000 events since 1994, serving many thousands of meals in the Caribbean and North America.  These events have included large corporate functions, sporting events, weddings, television, and movie productions. 

Selwyn has been planning and cooking delicious food with artistic flare for over 25 years.  Selwyn studied Culinary Management at George Brown College in Toronto and started his culinary career as a Kitchen Manager with Culture's Food Service.  He worked in a variety of prestigious restaurants in and around Toronto working with the Skyline Hotel, The Island Yacht Club, the prestigious Top Of Toronto Restaurant at the CN Tower as a Sous Chef, The Earl Of Whitchurch-Stouffville and was part of the opening team for Skydome where he headed his own department as Head Chef Garde-Manager. 

Selwyn’s broad experience in the Hospitality and Food Services industries, coupled with a talent and enthusiasm for restaurant excellence, resulted in Selwyn owning and managing his own upscale Caribbean restaurant and catering company with his brothers Lennox and Travis.  Traveling all over the Caribbean, North America and Europe their company received a number of write-ups from local newspapers and an appearance on City TV's "Breakfast Television".

It has been said that Selwyn creates a feast for the eyes as well as the palate!  At the Food & Wine Show in 1987 (sponsored by the Escofier Society of Toronto), Selwyn was recognized for achieving these high standards of excellence in the culinary arts and was awarded 2 silver medals and 1 bronze. 

Recognized as an expert in his field, Selwyn and The Art of Catering are renowned for their TV appearances on such shows as “I Do… Let’s Eat!” (Food Network), “Rich Bride, Poor Bride” (Life Network) and “Soul Food” (BET Network/Showtime). 

Interviews and live radio broadcasts with Selwyn have been heard on CIUT 89.5 FM, AM 640 and CHRY 105.5 FM in Toronto and WBLK 93.7 FM in Buffalo.  Selwyn is a contributor to publications such as “Planet Africa Magazine”, “Wisdom”, “Pride”, “Extra”, and “Share Newspaper” where you can read articles featuring his recipes and recognizing his work.

Whether catering a small corporate dinner or large social event, quality and presentation, friendly and professional service are always the number one priority for Selwyn and his team.

 

Experienced Staff

Selwyn’s wife Jennifer is a qualified Pastry Chef whose cakes have been featured on “I Do… Let’s Eat!” and “Rich Bride, Poor Bride”.  With her artistic and innovative talent, Jennifer’s cakes and pastries are made to suit specific tastes and requirements with a variety of mouth watering-flavours to satisfy every palette.  Utilizing her extensive experience, Jennifer takes pride in producing consistently high standard product and creative presentations.

The Art of Catering staff are fully trained professionals with years of experience in the industry and qualified to deliver services consistent with Selwyn’s high standards.  Our staff take pride in their appearance and are dedicated to providing exceptional service with enthusiasm and integrity.  They have diverse backgrounds and can cater to various cuisines whether Jamaican, Italian, Greek or others.

Our management team is dedicated to excellence and our committed staff takes pride in their jobs offering exceptional customer service.  This team of professionals is obsessed with quality and details every moment of an event.
